Polly Giller has had the worst luck with finding a good custodian for Sycamore House and the murder of her latest employee draws even more attention to her propensity for finding dead bodies. Sheriff Aaron Merritt just assumes that when she calls him, it's because she's found someone. The pool at the Elevator expands as the locals lay odds on Polly's next find. When Beryl Watson ends up in the hospital because of an explosion, the last thing she wants is to be a statistic in Polly's life.
Sal Kahane, Polly's college roommate and best friend from Boston, comes to Iowa to see what all the fuss is about at Sycamore House. The city girl has to keep an open mind in order to understand why her friend loves living among the cornfields. Polly's relationship with Henry Sturtz, her contractor and friend, continues to grow. When he left town for a couple of months, she discovered how important he was.
Polly takes a risk on a new custodian with a mysterious background and farm thefts disrupt the little town. She finds herself worrying about locking things up again; something she had ceased doing when she moved out of Boston.
Things are never dull in Bellingwood and with the introduction of wonderful, new characters, Polly comes to a better understanding of herself and her relationship with this little town. All of the regulars are back with some stories of their own to tell.

I've read all 3 of the Bellingwood books and can't wait for the next. I'm not even sure I can explain why I like them so much. For one thing, the minor mysteries in the books are not central to the story. However, the writing is wonderful, the characters are interesting and well-developed and the stories are compelling. The books are very conversational and personal, and it's refreshing to read something that is just entertaining and clean, not edgy and trashy. I'm from the South, but small-town Iowa seems very familiar to me, and it's fun reading about the simple, everyday things that happen in a small community.Product details

Treasure Uncovered Bellingwood Book 3 eBook Diane Greenwood Muir Reviews
This is my second go around reading these books. I read 1 thru 7 a few years ago and just picked up 7 again in the package offered. I havent been able to stop reading them even though i got to the last book written so I started back at the beginning to refresh my memory of how it came about. Please keep writing these books!
I thoroughly enjoy these rather old fashioned detective stories with a thread or romance. They are peopled with three dimensional characters, a loveable heroine and the odd murder. To read another in the series is like visiting with old friends with the mystery to solve as well. Not everyone is universally pleasant, or good, but every character is written with compassion. I note some reviewers often note that they seek a "clean read." I'm sure that means different things to different readers. To me it means no gratuitous, graphically explicit sex, to others it seems to mean no passion at kissing at all. This book more than passes muster for me, and would by most standards, yet it is neither boring nor inane.
This is the first book in the series that I stared with. You do not need to read them in sequence. I enjoyed this book.
Got the first book free. Read the second one free on Prime loan. Enjoyed both so much paid for the third one! Gentle story with great characterization and enough fun writing to laugh out loud in a few places. Waiting for the fourth book out in October. The main character is a strong woman with a vivid drive to succeed while growing into her place in the community. Very happy to have found this series. Interesting to watch the developments.
If you're paying attention, you'll notice that this is a series. As with most series, you get more out of the story if you read the books in the series (preferably in order). I enjoyed reading about Polly and all the ladies and friends, Henry and all the others. I liked all the characters and their easy ways with each other. It is a nice read. But I couldn't help wondering what genre and age group the author is going for. This isn't really a mystery or romance series, and at times it seemed almost YA. It is all quite generic in nature, and sometimes just too simple.
I liked the story well enough, but it just seemed to meander along with no real point. It's a nice time waster, but nothing really solid to hang onto. If you're looking for something light and fluffy with no sex or bad language, this might just fit the bill.
The (way too many) characters are incredibly shallow and boring. I kept forgetting who they were. There doesn't seem to be a plot, except that the custodian was killed but nobody cared. I was able to make it to 21% of the way through the book, but I don't plan on finishing. This story is too much like life . . . just the boring humdrum and minutia of life should not be the main storyline of a novel. I like books that take me away from my own boring life. I couldn't believe how incredibly uncaring these people were about the death of the custodian . . . he seemed to have more character development, in the short time we knew him, than the rest of the characters. The more developed a character is, the more interesting the story. The development of a plot should follow some sort of plan and not meander from here to there. I'm sorry, but I could not "like" this story.
I am so enjoying her stories. They contain all the things I like. A woman with a feeling for those who create, a renovated school house, people around her who help and whom she loves, cats, dogs, horses, and a little mystery thrown in. Good women friends and improvements to the property. Well written. Each one has been read straight through keeping me up into the wee hours. But I don't mind when the story holds my attention like hers do.
I've read all 3 of the Bellingwood books and can't wait for the next. I'm not even sure I can explain why I like them so much. For one thing, the minor mysteries in the books are not central to the story. However, the writing is wonderful, the characters are interesting and well-developed and the stories are compelling.
